Okongo: Mobile Telecommunications Limited (MTC) has officially opened its first Mobile Home in Okongo, providing residents of the town and surrounding communities access to telecommunications services without having to travel nearly 100 kilometres to Eenhana.
According to Namibia Press Agency, the new outlet, officially opened on Wednesday, expands MTC's national retail network to 40 stores. This is part of the company's strategy to enhance customer access to telecommunications services across Namibia. MTC corporate communications practitioner Erasmus Nekundi highlighted that the opening addresses a long-standing demand from the community for a permanent MTC presence.
The outlet aligns with MTC's Integrated Strategic Business Strategy and digital inclusion agenda, focusing on extending telecommunications services to growing communities based on demographic and economic trends. Nekundi noted that for years, Okongo residents depended on the MTC outlet in Eenhana for services such as SIM card registration and replacement, contract applications, account payments, renewals, and mobile money services. The new outlet now offers these services locally, along with the sale of recharge vouchers and other MTC products.
Local resident Tangeni Shinedima expressed appreciation for the development, stating it would save residents both time and transport costs. The Okongo Mobile Home is part of MTC's ongoing retail expansion programme. The company plans to open additional mobile homes in Walvis Bay and Okuryangava in Windhoek, relocate its Ongwediva store to larger premises at Oshana Mall, and establish new outlets in Omaruru, Otjinene, and potentially Outjo.
