The mutilated body of an unidentified man was found in the Zambezi River on Sunday.

Namibian Police Force (NamPol) Crime Investigations Coordinator for the Zambezi Region, Deputy Commissioner Evans Simasiku told Nampa on Monday the body was found around 15h00.

He said the body had cuts and the genitals were mutilated.

‘We are suspecting foul play and also suspect that this is a ritual killing or perhaps trafficking of body parts,’ he said.

Sunday’s discovery follows one in which the body of 37-year-old Egidius Kayangula was found floating in the Kavango River last week after he had crossed over into Angola with a friend.

NamPol Head of Forensic Pathology in the Kavango East Region, Gotfried Maritsane, said there are similarities in the two cases, noting that the body found in the Kavango River also had cuts and the man’s penis was skinned and his testicles removed.
