Swakopmund: A N.dollars 50 billion green hydrogen agreement in Arandis and the elevation of Uis to town status headlined billions of dollars in local authority investment across the Erongo Region over the past financial year, Erongo Governor Natalia /Goagoses said on Wednesday.
According to Namibia Press Agency, Uis was upgraded from settlement to town status, becoming the region's eighth local authority. Governor /Goagoses, in her second State of the Region Address delivered in Swakopmund, announced the allocation of N.dollars 1 million for an Infrastructure Master Plan and N.dollars 8.5 million for a bulk water pipeline.
Arandis, meanwhile, concluded a contractual agreement for the second phase of the Cleanergy Green Hydrogen Project, valued at approximately N.dollars 50 billion. This project is facilitated by the Namibia Investment Promotion and Development Board. Governor /Goagoses highlighted that Arandis has transitioned from a traditionally service-oriented municipality towards a growing development node.
Namibia Green Charcoal is contributing approximately 14 percent of Namibia's green charcoal output for export, while Namibia Gypsum Industries is set to produce about 10 million square metres of finished ceiling boards, /Goagoses added.
In Walvis Bay, the municipality is executing a N.dollars 400 million road rehabilitation project and received N.dollars 75 million in housing support from central government. The city has delivered 68 houses under the Build Together Programme, 230 through informal settlement upgrading, and 210 by the Shack Dwellers Federation.
In Omaruru, a private investment of N.dollars 24 million has been directed towards the Wolke 9 Retirement Estate, which is expected to provide 123 residential plots across approximately 150 hectares.
