The Namibia Senior Women’s Cricket Team, the Capricorn Eagles produced a stunning performance in the last four overs to beat Uganda by five wickets at the ongoing Capricorn Women’s Tri-Nation Series at the CCD field here on Monday.

The Eagles won the toss and elected to field first, and restricted Uganda to 93 runs for three in their allocated 20 overs.

Batting at number three, Janet Mbabazi top scored 32 runs off 50 (32/50) scoring three fours, and was ably supported by Rita Musamali who scored 27 runs from 33 balls finding the boundary (four runs) once for the visitors.

Namibia started batting slowly with openers Sunè Wittmann and Juriene Diergaardt scoring 10 and six runs respectively in the first 10 overs.

Fellow top order batters Yasmeen Khan and Adri van der Merwe also struggled with the bat, scoring six apiece before Woman of the Match Edelle van Zyl joined Kayleen-Ann Green on the crease with Namibia struggling at 38/3 with the required run rate going up to 9.4 an over.

This left Namibia requiring more than nine runs an over and Van Zyl did not disappoint as she smashed a six on the first delivery she faced, and finished off the match with an emphatic six to help Namibia to 99/5 in 19.5 overs as the home team required two runs from two balls.

The victory by Namibia saw them finish second on the log with eight, behind Zimbabwe who managed to gather 10 points.

Uganda failed to win a single match, finishing with zero points.
