Windhoek: Namibia has been named runner - up at the 2024 World Trade Promotion Organisation ( WTPO ) Awards . The International Trade Centre ( ITC ) made the announcement , recognising the Namibia Investment Promotion and Development Board ( NIPDB ) for its achievements in the category ' Best initiative to ensure that trade is inclusive and sustainable .' The awards highlight innovation in trade promotion , with a focus on organisations that support Micro , Small , and Medium Enterprises ( MSMEs ) as they expand into international markets . NIPDB ' s acting executive director of MSME development , innovation and acceleration , Julia Muetudhana , stated in a notice released on Tuesday that Namibia was shortlisted in the category alongside ApexBrazil , who won . This year ' s prizes were centred on projects that assure inclusive and sustainable commerce , solve global development concerns , and promote economic growth that benefits all sections of society , she stated . ' This global recognition highlights Nami bia ' s efforts in supporting the growth and development of MSMEs , specifically through the NIPDB ' s Know2Grow High Potential Pool Programme ,' she said . She explained that the Know2Grow High Potential Pool Programme is an initiative that aims to empower export - ready MSMEs by providing them with necessary tools , resources , and market access platforms . The programme ' s goal is to give MSMEs with training and mentorship to help them compete on a worldwide scale , as well as opportunities for firms to engage in global trade fairs , expos , and other market access activities , she said . ' We pledge our commitment to continue working with our MSMEs in Namibia to ensure that trade is inclusive , sustainable and that we will grow in accessing global markets ,' she said . According to ITC Executive Director , Pamela Coke - Hamilton , trade and investment promotion groups are critical to long - term economic growth , particularly assisting small enterprises in exporting . ' Today , we ' re recognising the be st of them all , globally . Congratulations to the three winners and all of the finalists for preparing small businesses to actively participate in trade ,' she remarked .
