Namibia’s 2018 Commonwealth Games boxing gold medallist, Junias Jonas yesterday afternoon beat his opponent to progress to the next round of the Commonwealth Games underway in Birmingham, England.

The Namibian boxer who fights in the men’s light welterweight category made his third appearance at the Games where he won silver and gold medals in the past.

Yesterday, Jonas dominated the fight from start to finish against Colan Caleb who represented Nauru.

The Namibian boxer gave his opponent no chances, and had him on the canvas in the last round of the fight, forcing the referee to stop the fight and Jonas progressing to the round of 16 that will be contested tomorrow.

Meanwhile, another boxer, Tryagain Ndevelo competing in the 54-57-kilogramme featherweight category will not be making his second appearance at the Commonwealth Games today as was scheduled, because he got a bye in the rounds of 32 and therefore is only expected to step in the ring on Monday against an opponent that will emerge from the round of 32.

Also yesterday, Namibia female triathlon athletes Anri Krugel and Imke Jagau finished 23rd and 24th respectively, as Flora Duffy of Bermuda defended her Commonwealth Games women’s triathlon title in style with a convincing victory at Sutton Park.
