Sanaa:State House The Namibian Ports Authority (NamPort) announced a significant commitment of N$90 million to support the development of football across Namibia over the next three football seasons. This funding will be distributed as N$30 million annually through the Namibia Football Association (NFA) and will cover the 2026-27, 2027-28, and 2028-29 seasons.
According to Namibia Press Agency, the sponsorship was announced by Minister of Works and Transport Veikko Nekundi at State House. The investment aligns with the Government's 2025-2030 implementation plan and the Swapo party manifesto, which prioritize sport and call for sustainable financial support for sports leagues across the nation.
The initiative is an extension of NamPort's previous involvement in domestic football, where the port authority has already invested N$10.5 million since December 2024 in supporting second- and third-division football through regional leagues in all 14 regions. NamPort's latest sponsorship aims to enhance these efforts and provide stability and growth opportunities for clubs.
President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, upon accepting the sponsorship, highlighted the importance of this investment in strengthening the existing football infrastructure. She emphasized that sport plays a critical role in the country's development agenda by providing opportunities for young Namibians and teaching them valuable life skills such as discipline, teamwork, leadership, and resilience.
Jerome Mouton, NamPort board chairperson, stated that the decision to allocate N$90 million from the company's dividends underscores the belief in football's potential to contribute to youth development and employment. The funds will be managed under a three-year sponsorship agreement with the NFA, ensuring that they are used effectively to deliver lasting value to the Namibian people. Mouton assured that the funds would be managed prudently and accounted for meticulously.
