Former Education minister David Namwandi has denied allegations that he facilitated the establishment of Limkokwing University in Namibia during his tenure, and called the allegations “gravely erroneous.”

Namwandi in a media statement on Wednesday responded to allegations on social media linking him to the institution.

He said that even though the facilitation and selection of foreign universities was overseen by the Ministry of Education, the final decisions were based on the recommendations of delegations of experts from various regulatory bodies in Namibia who visited the universities to determine their eligibility. Namwandi stated that the process was thorough and transparent and the relevant documents are available for public scrutiny.

“I would like to highlight that during my tenure, we never facilitated or favoured a foreign institution(s) above Namibian institutions, as this is a sign of weakness and is unpatriotic. We take it that the attempt to drag my name into this saga is to divert people’s attention and thus totally irrelevant and has no bearing on what is currently in dispute – the setting up of Limkokwing University in Namibia at the expense of Namibian students and local institutions,” he said.

Namwandi added that instead of fabricating stories, whoever is circulating the accusation on social media should provide proof of what they are accusing him of to the Anti-Corruption Commission.
