Windhoek: President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah on Thursday directed State-owned enterprises (SOEs) to shift from planning to implementation, saying their success would be measured by their contribution to economic growth, job creation, and improved service delivery rather than reports and board resolutions.According to Namibia Press Agency, the president addressed chief executive officers and chairpersons of public enterprises, emphasizing that every SOE must identify practical reforms and strategic investment projects to unlock growth and support the implementation of the Sixth National Development Plan (NDP6). She posed critical questions to the leaders, urging them to pinpoint specific reforms and projects that would significantly impact Namibia's economy within the next 24 months.The president criticized the focus on compliance over tangible results, noting that public confidence could only be restored through visible, meaningful outcomes. She stressed the importance of creating public trust by delivering concrete achievements that citizens can see and experience.Nandi-Ndaitwah's engagement with Namibia's 78 State-owned enterprises, organized by the Public Enterprises CEOs' Forum, centered on their role in implementing NDP6. She highlighted the need for SOEs to identify regulations requiring alignment, areas needing Cabinet or presidential intervention, and the job creation potential of their reforms. The president also urged an increase in procurement benefiting Namibian businesses, with a focus on small and medium enterprises.A stern warning was issued against poor governance, corruption, and awarding projects to incapable entities. The president emphasized that integrity and merit must guide decision-making processes within public enterprises. She described SOE executives and board chairpersons as the nation's cream, urging them to justify the trust placed in them through results."You are the cream, and that's why you are given the responsibility to run those institutions," Nandi-Ndaitwah stated, call ing for accountability and tangible contributions to Namibia's economic growth.
