Windhoek: President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah on Monday received a delegation from the Omaludi organising committee at State House to discuss the upcoming Omaludi Agricultural Festival and ongoing projects in Okongo village. The event is set to take place at the village in the Ohangwena Region from 25 to 30 May 2026 under the theme, 'Agriculture and Tourism for Sustainable Economic Growth.'

According to Namibia Press Agency, the president, in her capacity as patron of the festival, is expected to deliver a keynote address at the event's fundraising gala dinner to be held on 25 April at the village. The event is going to feature, among others, livestock exhibitions and will serve as a networking platform for businesspeople and industry players from all over.

After meeting the president, chairperson of the Okongo Village Council, Tuhafeni Shapopi explained that the festival did not take place last year due to challenges on the airstrip, where the event is held. "We are operating on the airstrip, and the organisers have opted to use the same venue this year, with plans to relocate to a new venue next year," he said.

He further highlighted that the organising team is working tirelessly to ensure the event is executed professionally and avoids past setbacks. The festival, he stressed, has strong potential to boost the local economy and to put Okongo on the map.
