The Namibia National Students Organisation (NANSO) will host its inaugural annual marathon race on 27 November 2021 in Windhoek under the theme ‘Running towards youth empowerment and socio-economic development.’

NANSO secretary for sports, Phillipus Hamuyela, told Nampa on Thursday that the marathon will be held on the Dan Viljoen Dam Road with 21 kilometres (half marathon), 15 kilometres and 5 kilometres races.

He said the event is open to all age groups at N.dollars 40 per ticket inclusive of a water bottle with participants to be awarded medals upon completion of their respective races.

The event, Hamunyela said is aimed to highlight the youth’s empowerment and socio-economic development while bringing people together to interact on pertinent youth issues and engage in consolidated solutions on youth matters. ‘One of our objectives is also to revive the organisation, thus bringing youth together educating them on goals, duties and objectives.

The event will on an annual basis be rotated among the different towns in the country’s 14 regions.

Hamuyela noted that even though there won’t be prizes for winners during this first edition, plans are in place to bring sponsors on board for the second edition.
