Kontagora: The Chief of Naval Staff (CNS), Vice Adm. Emmanuel Ogalla, has inaugurated a solar-powered motorised industrial borehole in the Bayan Waya Community, located in the Kontagora Local Government Area of Niger. The initiative is part of a series of Special Intervention Quick Impact Projects (SIQIP) aimed at providing essential services across the country.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, Vice Adm. Ogalla, represented by the Chief of Naval Transformation, Rear Adm. Monday Unurhiere, highlighted that the borehole project includes a 60,000-litre capacity overhead water tank, water points, perimeter fencing, and solar lighting units. This initiative is aligned with the Nigerian Navy's mandate to enhance civil-military cooperation and support the Federal Government's Renewed Hope Agenda.
The project is also a tribute to accomplished senior officers, demonstrating the Navy's commitment to serving Nigerian communities beyond its primary security role. The commissioning was celebrated as a significant milestone in civil-military relations, particularly noting the contributions of Rear Adm. Abdulmajid Ibrahim, a native of Kontagora.
Gov. Umaru Bago, represented by Retired Brig.-Gen. Bello Mohammed, expressed gratitude to the navy for the project, describing it as a testament to national service and community development. He emphasized the project's role in improving the quality of life, particularly for women, children, and farmers in the community.
Rear Adm. Abdulmajid Ibrahim, the project facilitator, noted that the borehole marks a critical advancement in the Navy's Civil-Military Relations efforts. The borehole is among several projects under the CNS Special Intervention Quick Impact Project, underscoring the Navy's commitment to addressing community needs across Nigeria.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by His Royal Highness, Alhaji Muhammed Barau Mu'azu II, represented by Alhaji Adamu Mohammed, and Umar Sani, the Member Representing Kotongora 1 Constituency in the Niger State House of Assembly.
