Retired Inspector General (IG) of the Namibian Police Force (NamPol), Lieutenant-General Sebastian Ndeitunga says although he is retiring, he will continue to be haunted by various high-profile cases that are yet to be concluded.

These cases amongst others include the 2018 murder of nine-year-old Cheryl Avihe Ujaha, the 2010 murder of Dawid Bezuidenhoudt High School learner Magdalena Stoffels, and the disappearance of four-year-old Spencer Mandela in Luderitz in 2020.

“Up to now those cases are haunting me because we wanted to find out who is involved, and to solve those cases so that the families can find peace,” he said.

Ndeitunga retired on Wednesday after serving the force for the past 17 years.

In an earlier interview with Nampa, Ndeitunga said he encountered many challenges during his tenure as NamPol IG, such as a lack of sufficient resources and the rise in crime which disturbs the peace and security of citizens.

He said he would like to see everyone happy with the police services, noting that some investigations do not have good results, and these are investigations of serious cases such as murder and rape.

He however said he is confident that the new management will find conclusive answers to those cases.

Ndeitunga once again pleaded with members of the public with credible information that could lead to the arrests of suspects, to come forth and contact the police so that they can be prosecuted.

He emphasised that they will be protected should they come forward.

Ndeitunga further took the opportunity to thank the Central Government for availing resources which led to the improved working conditions in the force.

He also thanked all Cabinet Ministers and the entire management, rank and file of the force for rendering their assistance in maintaining cordial working relations and adhering to directives when called upon.

“Had it not been for your unwavering support, I would not have succeeded in these endeavours and retiring honourably, as I am today,” he said.
