Katima mulilo: The National Democratic Party (NDP) has retained its Katima Mulilo Local Authority seat after garnering 877 votes, according to the final results for the 2025 local authority elections announced on Saturday.
According to Namibia Press Agency, the NDP has secured the second position after the Swapo Party, which collected five seats from their 3,819 votes. The quota for the seat was determined at 803.57 from the votes cast. The Independent Patriots for Change (IPC) came in third place with 385 votes, securing a seat, with a remainder of 495 votes shared among other participating political parties.
Simasiku Mukendwa, first on the NDP list, is the only town councillor expected to return to the Katima Mulilo town council from the previous administration. The previous council was removed by Urban and Rural Development Minister James Sankwasa in August due to alleged mismanagement, illegal land transactions, and failing to implement ministerial directives. Mukendwa is expected to be sworn in alongside Swapo's newly elected councillors Royd Likando, Charity Matongo-Mabuku, Kamwi Mazila, Nsala Muhongo, and Kabende Kabende. Jimmy Sikwela is the IPC councillor expected to occupy the last seat on the seven-seat Katima Mulilo Town Council.
