Windhoek: The University of Namibia (UNAM) conferred 946 qualifications during its 2025 Spring Graduation Ceremony held on Wednesday at a hotel in Windhoek, marking a moment of achievement, resilience, and hope for the new graduates. Presiding over the ceremony, Prof Ellen Namhila, Pro Vice Chancellor for Administration and Finance, commended the graduates for their perseverance and encouraged them to use their qualifications to serve humanity.
According to Namibia Press Agency, official university statistics indicated that women dominated the cohort at 64.04 percent, while men constituted 35.96 percent. The two sessions witnessed graduates from various key faculties of UNAM, including Education and Human Sciences, Agriculture, Engineering and Natural Sciences, Commerce, Management and Law, as well as Health Sciences and Veterinary Medicine. The university also awarded 19 doctorates and 160 master's degrees, reinforcing its commitment to research and postgraduate excellence.
The ceremony also underscored UNAM's regional impact, with 22 international students from Zimbabwe, Zambia, Malawi, Eswatini, South Africa, and Kenya among the graduates. For many, the day marked the culmination of years of determination and sacrifice. Cecilia Pineas, who graduated with a Bachelor of Education in Biology and Mathematics, expressed her gratitude, acknowledging the support of her parents, family, and friends. Teofelus Haimbodi, who earned an Honours Degree in Biology and Home Economics, encouraged current students to remain focused and dedicated.
Highlighting inclusivity, the event celebrated a visually impaired student who successfully completed a Master of Education in Adult Education, inspiring many with her determination. In her address, Prof Namhila reaffirmed UNAM's role in advancing Namibia's sixth National Development Plan, emphasizing that human development remains central to the nation's growth and resilience.
