Through the bank’s bursary programme, Nedbank Namibia has awarded bursaries totaling N. dollars 190 000 to seven students from various tertiary institutions in Namibia.

Seven applications were successful, including those from Nedbank Namibia employees who are studying part-time.

The Nedbank Namibia bursary committee conducted interviews and in-depth assessments before awarding the candidates who met the qualifying criteria.

Faith Cloete, Acting Head of Human Capital at Nedbank Namibia, told Nampa on Monday that the rationale for the employees’ intention to pursue further studies should include, but not be limited to, outlining the full curriculum of the particular course, compared to the employees’ existing job description, and how the qualification will add value to the employee’s personal development within their role and responsibility.

“Among other things, Nedbank Namibia is committed to achieving its vision by granting bursaries to both our employees and external candidates for formal educational qualifications that will facilitate their development and the implementation of the bank’s strategy,” she said.

She stated that those who did not make the successful list this year should apply again next year.

“Although we were unable to accommodate everyone who applied at this time, we want you to never give up on your studies and to apply again for next year’s intake,” she said.

David Apollos, an external candidate in this year’s intake pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science at the Namibia University of Science and Technology, stated that he applied for the Nedbank bursary for a variety of reasons.

One of the reasons was that the bursary would cover his tuition fees because his parents could not afford his studies at this time.

“The other reason was that I would be able to do my internship at Nedbank Namibia, which is an opportunity to expose me to practical experience and broaden my network in the banking space, which I believe will be beneficial for me in the long run,” he explained.

Mercy David, Hermanus Louw, Maiya Mapele, Nollyda Goases, Varneah Hartung, and Elizabeth Haitamba are among the Nedbank Namibia employees who received bursaries.

Accounting, Business Administration and Commerce in Law are among their majors.
