Windhoek: Nedbank Namibia has launched a targeted initiative to help first-time buyers overcome the financial barriers to entering the property market. In a media statement issued on Monday, the bank announced its 'Unlock Your First Home' initiative, aimed at making homeownership more attainable for young professionals and middle-income earners who are struggling to secure their first property.According to Namibia Press Agency, the initiative offers qualifying clients access to up to 108 per cent financing, enabling them to cover both the purchase price of the property and associated costs, thereby reducing the burden of large upfront deposits. The package is also supported by interest rates below the bank's home loan base rate. The launch comes amid rising property prices, as well as steep upfront costs such as deposits and transfer fees which have placed homeownership out of reach for many Namibians. Nedbank Namibia's Head of Lending, Chane Isaaks, stated that qualifying for a home loan is only one part of the challenge, and many aspiring homeowners are still unable to meet the initial costs involved.Isaaks emphasized that the offer is intended to provide practical relief to first-time buyers and support their transition from renting to homeownership. She stated, 'We recognise that buying a home isn't only about qualifying for a loan, it's also about overcoming the upfront barriers that keep so many Namibians from taking that first step.'Furthermore, Isaaks highlighted the broader implications of the initiative, noting, 'This is about giving hardworking Namibians room to breathe. We want first-time buyers to focus on building their future, not battling financial roadblocks.'Beyond financing, the campaign also promotes access to move-in-ready homes, helping to streamline the buying process and limit delays often associated with property development. The bank stated that the initiative forms part of its wider commitment to advancing financial inclusion and supporting long-term economic stability by expan ding access to property ownership.
