Windhoek: The newly elected councillors for the Khomas Region were sworn in at the Regional Council chambers on Friday. All 10 constituency councillors took the oath of office, administered by Magistrate Ndapeua Amadhila. During the ceremony, the councillors elected Swapo Party's Stefanus Ndengu from the Moses Garoeb Constituency as Chairperson of the Management Committee for the next five years.

According to Namibia Press Agency, in his acceptance speech, Ndengu expressed his gratitude to the outgoing council, noting that it had made meaningful progress in service delivery and development. He affirmed that the new council is committed to maintaining that momentum. One of his key priorities is addressing youth unemployment, which he emphasised remains a pressing challenge for the region, particularly as more people continue to move to Windhoek in search of better opportunities.

Ndengu stated, 'Unemployment and poverty, particularly among our young people, remain unacceptable. Too many of our youth are still without jobs, and many families struggle to make ends meet.' He added that these realities underscore the urgency for the new council to tackle these challenges head-on with renewed focus and energy.

He further urged his fellow councillors to put aside political differences and work together for the benefit of the region. 'Indeed, it is only through teamwork that we will be able to record achievements and deliver the services that our people deserve,' he said.

Other members of the Management Committee include fellow Swapo councillors Wayne Sissing from the Khomasdal Constituency, Richard Gaoseb from Katutura West, and Willem Gariseb from the Katutura Rural Constituency. The councillors also elected Christopher Likuwa from Tobias Hainyeko, John Moonde from John Pandeni, and Emma Tangi Muteka from the Windhoek West Constituency to serve in the National Council.

Vezemba Katjaimo, the Popular Democratic Movement councillor for the Katutura Central Constituency, along with Lydia Kanime, Swapo's councillor for the Samora Machel Constituency, and Jochen Traut, the Independent Patriots for Change councillor from Windhoek East, will serve as ordinary council members.
