Windhoek: Prime Minister Elijah Ngurare has urged the executive management of the City of Windhoek to align its strategic plans with the government's national development priorities.According to Namibia Press Agency, the prime minister made the call during a meeting with the City of Windhoek leadership on Wednesday as part of a broader initiative to engage local authorities across the country and assess their contribution to the national development agenda.A statement issued by the Office of the Prime Minister said during the engagement, sanitation, water access, and agriculture dominated discussions, with agriculture identified as a key priority due to its direct link to food security.'Food security is critical and of paramount importance. Do not recite to us the laws of impossibilities. I want us to systematically work together to meet the needs of our people in a dignified manner. Humanity must come first,' Ngurare said.He stressed the need for public institutions to clearly demonstrate how their programmes support national objectives, particularly through agricultural initiatives such as community gardens and peri-urban farming projects aimed at reducing hunger and malnutrition. The prime minister also highlighted the success of the first community garden project in the Omaheke Region, saying it has already yielded a good harvest while creating employment opportunities for young people. He said local authorities have a critical role to play in advancing government priorities and improving the living conditions of communities through practical and people-centred development initiatives.Ngurare further called on councillors of the City of Windhoek to set aside political differences and work together to improve service delivery, saying residents expect leaders to focus on development rather than political disputes.'When we need to deliver services to our people, let us bury our political differences,' the prime minister said, urging city leaders to pursue unity of purpose in the interest of the co mmunities they serve. The engagement was intended to strengthen cooperation, clarify roles and align expectations between central government and the local authority.
