The Ministry of Environment, Forestry and Tourism (MEFT) has confirmed that there are no reported wildlife mortalities in the ongoing veld fire in the Etosha National Park.

Informing the media on Thursday, MEFT Public Relations Officer, Romeo Muyunda, said the veld fire entered west of the park on Monday from nearby farms and the ministry has since been working tirelessly to contain it.

Muyunda explained that currently, the fire is burning in a contained segment of the park and does not pose further potential damage to trees and wildlife.

“The ministry can confirm that the fire is now contained and no wildlife mortalities have been observed,” he said.

He noted that the ministry is going to do an assessment to establish any other damage and the size of the area burnt.
