The National Youth Sport Development Platform (NYSDP) on Saturday launched the Coronavirus (COVID-19) sport jab campaign at Lüderitz.

In an interview with Nampa on Sunday, NYSDP ||Kharas Coordinator, Michael Kahiriri, said the six month campaign aims to complement the call of government for more people to get vaccinated, with special emphasis put on the youth and the sport fraternity.

“This campaign is to show that we support the call of government. We want our people to get vaccinated and we believe that if we have more young people and the sport community (vaccinated), then the country will be saved. Yesterday, four people were vaccinated at our mobile vaccination point,” he said.

As part of their campaign, NYSDP members, other youth from the town, health officials and !Nami#Nûs Constituency councillor, Susan Ndjaleka, took to the streets at the harbour town to sensitise the community on the vaccines that are currently being administered in the country.

Ndjaleka, while urging the community at the town to get inoculated, noted that the Lüderitz district has been hit hard by the pandemic and it is time the community plays their part in fighting the virus.

“We thank the NYSDP for the initiative. We urged the community of this constituency to go out in numbers and get vaccinated. These vaccines give hope for our local economy to get back in shape. We have small businesses that lost income, let us create the spirit of hope, let us trust the health system and we really hope our vaccination volume is increased at the end of the day,” she added.

Similar campaign will be launched in other parts of the country.

The Lüderitz district has thus far recorded 3 620 COVID-19 positive cases and 39 COVID-19 related deaths. About 3 185 persons have received their first dose of the AstraZeneca or Sinopharm COVID-19 vaccines and 2 191 had received their second doses.
