The newly established Okahandja Football League (OFL) has announced its return to the field of play, this after the relaxation of some of the COVID-19 measures by President Hage Geingob, amongst those, the resumption of contact sports.

OFL chairperson Lee Hangula told Nampa on Friday that the league is set to return to action this weekend with a full round of fixtures.

The league fixtures were halted for over two months due to skyrocketing cases of the novel coronavirus pandemic in Namibia and have since April only managed to play five games.

May’s outstanding fixtures between Oshako and Legends will also be played on Saturday while log leaders Guardians who have yet to taste defeat will be taking on Dollar United on Saturday at the famous Nau-Aib Stadium to be followed by Ora Eleven versus Smokkel Boys. California will be closing Saturday’s fixtures up against Okakambe.

Sunday fixtures include title-chasing pairs, Young Fresh and Okahandja Football Club; Northern United will take on Legends while Oshetu United will play against Battle Boys.

With the games played thus far, Guardians FC are top of the league log standing on 15 points after a clean start followed by Young Fresh on 13 points with Okahandja FC in the third position with 10 points. Okakambe and Battle Boys are yet to taste victories after failing to register a single win in all their games, thus landing them in hot water at 13th and 14th position respectively.

Due to COVID-19 measures on overcrowdedness, no spectators will be entertained at all games, noted Hangula.
