Gobabis: The Roads Authority (RA) recently held a stakeholder meeting in Gobabis, Omaheke region, to validate the region's road master plan, which was developed following the August 2024 stakeholders' consultation workshop, where road infrastructure needs in the region were identified.

According to Namibia Press Agency, Omaheke Chief Regional Officer (CRO), Peka Semba, in an interview with Nampa on Wednesday, said the one-day meeting held in collaboration with the Bicon, Pregon, and Dunamis consultants, prioritised the completion of the ongoing road projects being upgraded to low volume seals (LVS). These include the Trans-Kalahari Highway-Tallismanus, Farm Du Plessis-Epukiro Post 3, Gobabis-Leonardville, and Aminuis-Tsjaka roads.

He added that the region further prioritised the rehabilitation of the Gobabis Spar-Weighbridge Road together with other roads such as Epukiro Post 3-Eiseb, Otjinene-Eiseb or Gam Road, as well as Aminuis-Corridor 13 road.

The other LVS roads to be upgraded in the next five to ten years are the Dordabis-Leonardville, Tallimanus-Donkerbos, Epukiro Post 3-Drimiopsis, Leonardville-Aranos, Omitara-Otjinene, Buitepos-Vergenoeg, and Onderombapa-Corridor 13 roads.

'The workshop resolved that the RA and the consultants determine the funding requirements for the identified projects in accordance with the national road sector operational procedures and capacity,' he noted.

This, according to the CRO, will be followed by the development of a five- to ten-year implementation plan into a regional masterplan, to form part of the national medium to long-term road masterplan. The masterplan would then be incorporated into the national development plans.

The CRO further acknowledged the efforts of the RA and the government in developing the country's road infrastructure and appealed to the RA to implement the Omaheke region's masterplan to continue with this venture.
