Windhoek: Orban Primary School on Friday received a newly constructed life skills classroom and storeroom valued at approximately N$500,000, aimed at strengthening learner support services and holistic education. The facility was donated by August 26 Construction through its corporate social responsibility programme.

According to Namibia Press Agency, August 26 Construction quantity surveyor, Gabriel Nandjigwa, noted that construction of the classroom and storeroom started on 11 May 2026 and was completed on 29 June 2026. He said the project supports national development goals by expanding access to quality and inclusive education. "We believe that every classroom we build is a step towards a more educated, skilled and prosperous Namibian child," Nandjigwa said.

Khomas Regional Director of Education, Arts and Culture, Paulus Nghikembua, commended the company for addressing a critical need in schools. He explained that the Khomas Region has more than 142 schools and over 110,000 learners, with enrolment increasing by about 3,800 learners annually. Nghikembua said while government prioritises the construction of conventional classrooms, specialist facilities such as life skills classrooms are equally important because they provide space for counselling, guidance, and psychosocial support. "Such spaces are becoming increasingly important as schools respond to the diverse social and emotional needs of our learners," noted Nghikembua.

Orban Primary School principal, Jan Cloete, said the new facility reflects the school's commitment to preparing learners for life beyond academics. "Education has always been about more than textbooks or examinations. It is about preparing young minds to navigate the complexities of the world with confidence, resilience, and practical knowledge," he said. Cloete added that the classroom would equip learners with essential skills such as critical thinking, decision-making, personal growth, and self-reliance. He further expressed gratitude to August 26 Construction and all stakeholders involved in making the project possible.
