Oshana: The Oshana Region's Under-20 football and Under-19 netball teams paid a courtesy visit to the region's governor, Hofni Iipinge, on Tuesday ahead of their departure for the upcoming Nedbank Namibian Newspaper Cup in the ||Kharas Region.According to Namibia Press Agency, Iipinge stressed to the youth athletes to make discipline the central condition for participation and success. He cautioned that misconduct could lead to immediate consequences, including disqualification from the tournament."When you go there you should be disciplined, otherwise you will be disqualified. You carry, or we carry with you, not only your personal ambitions, but the hopes, pride, and aspirations of the entire Oshana Region. You are not just representing yourself," he said.The governor stressed that athletes are not only competing for medals but also serving as ambassadors of the region, with their behavior under close scrutiny both on and off the field."Don't go there and fight them. Remember, you are ambassadors of Oshana. Your conduct on and off the field must reflect discipline, teamwork, and sportsmanship. Do not go and steal, call back home, we will act fast," Iipinge urged.The regional Under-20 football head coach Nathanael Hafuto said his team is entering the tournament confident and well-prepared after a sustained two-year build-up.Hafuto said the foundation for the team's campaign was laid when he took over, with preparations intensifying through structured trials, training, and a final camp that helped sharpen both performance and unity within the squad.He added that the team's recent camp played a key role in strengthening confidence and cohesion among the final 20 players selected for the tournament.Hafuto expressed optimism that the team's efforts will translate into success."I hope and believe by the end of the competition we are going to harvest what we have sowed," he said.The 24th edition of the tournament is set to take place in Keetmanshoop from 03 to 06 April 2026.
