Oshikoto Governor Pays Respects to Late Hishoono

Oshikoto: Oshikoto Governor Sacky Kathindi visited the homestead of the late war veteran and liberation struggle stalwart Matias Kanana Hishoono at Onambutu village in the Eenhana Constituency of the Ohangwena Region to pay his respects. Hishoono passed away on 14 January at the age of 89 and was granted a State funeral, which will be held at the Eenhana Heroes Shrine on Saturday.

According to Namibia Press Agency, Kathindi, in a conversation on Wednesday, referred to Hishoono as a living encyclopaedia, a hero of the liberation struggle, and an inspiration who motivated him from a young age. Kathindi emphasized that Hishoono's efforts were instrumental in securing peace and independence for Namibia, highlighting his role in influencing many Namibian leaders to join Swapo.

Kathindi remarked that Hishoono's passing is a significant loss to the communities of Ohangwena and Oshikoto, underscoring his importance in the historical narrative of the region.
