Oshikoto: The Oshikoto Region has recorded 3,108 supplementary voters during the ongoing Supplementary Voter Registration. The registration exercise began on 04 August and is set to conclude on 19 August. A total of 60 teams, accompanied by 120 police officers, have been deployed across 11 constituencies within the three local authority areas of Oniipa, Omuthiya, Tsumeb, and parts of Olukonda.

According to Namibia Press Agency, Oshikoto ECN Electoral Officer, Ester Hipangelwa, stated that Omuthiya recorded the highest number of voters at 460, followed by Tsumeb with 453. "The numbers are starting to pick up and it is mostly new applicants that have turned 18 years. They are being given an opportunity to take part in the upcoming elections," she explained.

Hipangelwa also mentioned that numbers in other constituencies are rising, despite the remote and vast nature of areas like Nehale, Engodi, and Okankolo. She highlighted challenges faced during registration, particularly with individuals using national documents that lack place of birth information or contain only a number, which poses a challenge for registering officials.

Additionally, Hipangelwa noted that some individuals registered in non-applicable local authority areas wish to be registered in the correct local authority but fail to produce the required documents. "If you cannot present the water bill, telephone bill, or a lease agreement document, or affirm that you have been residing in your constituency for 12 consecutive months, then we cannot register you," she said.

Hipangelwa urged residents from the 11 constituencies within the region to ensure they have the correct documents when registering and to make sure they register to partake in the upcoming elections in November.
