Otavi: The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has confirmed the arrest of a former human resources officer at the Otavi Town Council, Erenst Gaoab, on allegations of corruption.
According to Namibia Press Agency, the ACC stated that Gaoab, while acting as chief executive officer, allegedly promoted himself to the position of Manager of Human Resources. This position was not provided for in the council's approved organisational structure.
The arrest was carried out on 23 March 2026, and Gaoab has since been formally charged under Section 43(1) of the Anti-Corruption Act, 2003 (Act No. 8 of 2003), which pertains to the corrupt use of office or position for gratification. He was granted bail of N.dollars 10,000 and is expected to appear before the Regional Court in Otjiwarongo on 12 May 2026.
The ACC reiterated its commitment to integrity, transparency, and accountability in public institutions, emphasizing that corruption undermines governance, erodes public trust, and disrupts effective service delivery. Investigations into the matter continue.
