Otjiwarongo Constituency Councillor Launches First-Ever Sports Cup to Boost Youth Engagement

Otjiwarongo: The Otjiwarongo Constituency councillor, Paulus Nekundi, officially launched his inaugural constituency councillor's cup on Friday, setting the stage for a sports event that will take place on 11 and 12 October 2025 at the DRC informal settlement open sports fields.According to Namibia Press Agency, the initiative aims to identify young talent within the informal areas of the town and prepare them for upcoming national tournaments, including the 2026 The Namibian Newspaper Cup in the ||Kharas Region. Nekundi expressed his desire to engage youth through football and netball, steering them away from criminal activities, alcohol, and drug abuse by keeping them occupied.Nekundi disclosed that the Otjiwarongo Constituency office has generated approximately N.dollars 30,000 for this year's event. Thirteen football teams and ten netball teams registered on Friday afternoon, with the football champions set to receive N.dollars 20,000 and their netball counterparts N.dollars 10,000.Nekundi envisions the tournament growing into an annual event. He also supported local boxing by donating equipment valued at N.dollars 20,000 to Vilho Heita, coach of VH Otjiwarongo Boxing and Fitness Academy.
