Otjiwarongo: Namibian Police Force (NamPol) Otjozondjupa Regional Commander, Commissioner Philip Hidengwa, on Thursday discussed effective crime prevention measures with various private security companies in the Otjozondjupa Region ahead of the upcoming festive season.
According to Namibia Press Agency, the meeting held at the Otjiwarongo Police Station focused on best practices and tactics of general crime prevention and coordinated effective responses between NamPol and the security companies. Commissioner Hidengwa commended approximately 25 security companies operating in the region for their efforts in combating different types of criminal activities and emphasized the need to strengthen the existing collaboration.
The meeting also addressed the crime scene management plan, with Hidengwa urging officials to handle crime scenes with care to preserve evidence. He highlighted the importance of conducting background checks on security officers during recruitment, noting that some officers have been involved in leaking information to criminals, leading to inside jobs.
Discussions also covered gun handling, dress codes, impersonation of security personnel, and the importance of maintaining sobriety while on duty. Otjiwarongo Constituency Councillor, Paulus Nekundi, in his closing remarks, expressed gratitude to the attendees, stating that the meeting set the groundwork for a safer Otjozondjupa Region for all residents and visitors.
Nekundi underlined the significance of safety and security for economic development, as investors prioritize their safety before committing resources to any country. He stressed the importance of protecting tourists, who contribute foreign currency to Namibia, by both NamPol and private security firms. Additionally, Nekundi advised security companies to ensure timely and decent salary payments to employees to reduce grievances and enhance job performance.
A review meeting is scheduled for February 2026.
