Otjiwarongo: The Otjozondjupa Regional Council on Monday announced the appointment of Gerson Karaerua as its new Chief Regional Officer for a five-year term.
According to Namibia Press Agency, Otjozondjupa Regional Council chairperson, Paulus Nekundi, confirmed in an interview that Karaerua is set to begin his tenure in Otjiwarongo on April 1, 2026. Nekundi emphasized the council's plan to officially introduce and welcome Karaerua to the regional council on March 31, 2026, as stated by acting Otjozondjupa CRO, Welma Guriras.
Karaerua, when contacted, confirmed that he had been interviewed for the role but chose not to comment further on his appointment. He is currently working with the Walvis Bay Corridor Group. Karaerua's educational background includes a Master's Degree in Business Administration from the University of Stellenbosch and a Bachelor's Degree in Political Science and Economics from the University of Namibia. His professional experience includes serving as the acting CEO of the Roads Contractor Company (RCC) from 2018 to 2020.
The appointment comes after the retirement of the former CRO, Agatha Mweti, who stepped down from the position in October 2024.
