Otjiwarongo:The dormant Otjozondjupa Regional Road Safety Forum is scheduled to be reactivated on Thursday, with the aim of uniting law enforcement agencies, politicians, motorists, and the public in a concerted effort to enhance road safety within the region.
According to Namibia Press Agency, the forum's secretary, Paulina Abraham, who also serves as the Otjiwarongo Municipality's traffic superintendent, made this announcement during an information-sharing session organized by the Ministry of Information and Communication Technology. The session was held in Otjiwarongo on Wednesday.
The reactivation of the regional forum will be officially launched, marking a new beginning for the previously inactive group. It is expected to play a pivotal role in tackling road safety challenges in Otjozondjupa. Namibian Police Force (NamPol) Acting Inspector General, Major General Anna Marie-Nainda, is anticipated to officiate at the event and will announce the names of the forum's executive committee members, which will include a chairperson, vice-chairperson, secretary, vice-secretary, treasurer, and vice-treasurer.
The event will commence with a street procession, starting from the Etambi neighbourhood and concluding at the grassed area along the B1 road in Otjiwarongo. Abraham has encouraged motorists and the public to participate in the campaign, which aligns with the approaching festive season—a time often associated with increased traffic volumes and road safety hazards on the B1 road.
Abraham emphasized the importance of collective action to address the serious issue of road accidents in the region, and she noted that Nainda would outline the forum's planned activities from its launch through January 2027. The reactivation is expected to bolster collaboration among stakeholders and provide a coordinated platform to address road safety concerns in the Otjozondjupa Region.
