A 35-year-old man died instantly on Saturday evening after he was allegedly hit by a vehicle on the B8 road outside Grootfontein in the Otjozondjupa Region.

Namibian Police Force (NamPol) spokesperson in the region, Inspector Maureen Mbeha on Sunday told Nampa in an interview that the deceased is known to the police, but his identity cannot be revealed as his close relatives are yet to be informed of his death.

Mbeha stated that the accident occurred at approximately 14 kilometres north-east of Grootfontein at an unknown time on Saturday evening.

“The suspect fled the scene and we are still looking for him or her in connection with this accident,” she said.

A culpable homicide case has been opened, added Mbeha.

Police investigations into the matter continue.
