Lima: Peruvian President Jose Jeri declared a 30-day state of emergency for the capital Lima and the neighboring Callao region to address escalating public security issues. The emergency measure, approved by the Cabinet, is set to take effect at midnight on Tuesday.

According to Namibia Press Agency, President Jeri announced the decision during a national address, emphasizing the need to transition from a defensive to an offensive stance in combating crime. He stated that this initiative is crucial to restoring peace, tranquility, and public trust among Peruvians, acknowledging the significant rise in crime rates in recent years.

In his speech, President Jeri expressed his determination to change the course of action against insecurity in Peru, signaling a new chapter in the country's approach to public safety. Jeri assumed office as Peru's president on October 10, following the removal of former President Dina Boluarte by Congress.
