President Hage Geingob has extended a message of condolences to the family of the late Lucas Petrus Hangula, whom he described as an exceptional serviceman who dedicated his life in serving Namibia.

In a media statement issued Wednesday by the Presidency, Geingob said Hangula was a dedicated freedom fighter with a decorated military career, whose wise council could be called upon at all times and whose presence was always felt and absence was always missed.

Hangula died on Monday in Windhoek after a short illness at the age of 61.

“I personally recall my time at the Hainyeko Training Camp in Angola, where he was the commander and I was first introduced to the strict regime of military life. Throughout his career, as a highly disciplined cadre, comrade Hangula served our country with dedication and distinction in different capacities. Indeed, an outstanding servant of the Namibian nation has fallen,” said Geingob.

Hangula served as Inspector General of the Namibian Police Force before he was appointed to serve as Director General of Namibia Central Intelligence Service (NCIS) from 2006 until 2016, while also serving as advisor to the NCIS Director General between 2016 until 2020 when he retired.

“On behalf of the people and the Government of the Republic of Namibia, I extend condolences to the entire family. May the soul of the late Lieutenant General Lucas Petrus Hangula rest in eternal peace,” expressed Geingob.
