President Hichilema Extends Mourning Period for Edgar Lungu

Lusaka: President Hakainde Hichilema has extended the national mourning period for the late Former Republican President, Edgar Lungu, by an additional nine days. This extension follows the conclusion of the initial seven-day mourning period, which ended on June 14, 2025.

According to Namibia Press Agency, the extension was announced in a press statement by Secretary to Cabinet, Patrick Kangwa. The extended mourning period will be observed from June 15, 2025, to June 23, 2025. The decision was made after consultations with the government, the family of the deceased, and other stakeholders in South Africa.

Mr. Kangwa also mentioned that the cabinet office will provide a detailed state funeral program in due course.
