Windhoek: President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah will be joining her fellow heads of state and government from the Southern African Development Community (SADC) for their 46th Ordinary Summit in Durban on 17 August 2026.According to Namibia Press Agency, the Presidency announced on Thursday that Nandi-Ndaitwah will depart for South Africa on Sunday to attend the summit on Monday. The event will be hosted by President Cyril Ramaphosa under the theme 'Resilient, Sustainable and Inclusive Industrialisation through Infrastructure Development, Agricultural and Critical Minerals Transformation in Pursuit of a Just World.'The annual summit serves as SADC's supreme policymaking body, providing strategic direction and setting priorities for regional cooperation and development. The Presidency stated that the summit will consider the state of the region, including global, continental, and regional economic trends, and provide updates on SADC's socio-economic and political performance.Nandi-Ndaitwah and her counterparts are expected to deliberate on regional industrialisation, the advancement of regional value chains, intra-regional trade, and infrastructure connectivity, particularly within the framework of the African Continental Free Trade Area. Peace and security will also feature prominently on the summit agenda, with leaders expected to assess regional stability, political cooperation, and cross-border security initiatives.The summit will also witness the handover of the SADC Chairpersonship from Zimbabwean President Emmerson Mnangagwa to Ramaphosa. This year's summit follows a series of preparatory meetings, including those of senior officials from 04 to 10 August and the Council of Ministers from 12 to 14 August, before the Heads of State and Government meeting from 16 to 17 August. President Nandi-Ndaitwah is scheduled to return to Namibia on Tuesday, 18 August.
