Windhoek:Prime Minister Elijah Ngurare has called on the Ministry of Information and Communication Technology (MICT) to enhance innovation and contribute to Namibia's knowledge economy. This appeal was made during a midterm review meeting with ICT Minister Emma Theofelus.According to Namibia Press Agency , Ngurare emphasized the importance of a unified government approach. He urged government offices, ministries, and agencies to leverage the Government Information Centre (GIC) for public outreach and to improve coordination across government for the rapid dissemination of verified information, particularly during national emergencies.Ngurare encouraged exploring innovative initiatives that add value to common knowledge, highlighting that his discussions with government entities focus on collaboration rather than blame. He acknowledged the GIC's role in facilitating communication of government programmes, policies, and developments to the public.Minister Theofelus briefed the prime minister on MICT's fiv e priorities developing a digital society, infrastructure, stakeholder collaboration, digital economy and innovation, and digital government, emphasizing their alignment with broader development initiatives.Ngurare also called for robust coordination in government-wide information sharing to ensure information reaching the public is credible and verified. He stressed the importance of swiftly issuing verified messages during national distress to maintain effective communication with citizens and counter misinformation.This engagement is part of ongoing efforts to enhance government communication and improve public access to information, especially for communities across Namibia.
