Sydney: Pro-Palestinian demonstrations were held across Australia on Sunday, with organizers claiming crowd numbers to be in the tens of thousands. Organized by the Palestine Action Group, these national rallies followed a recent demonstration in Sydney that attracted tens of thousands of protesters and caused a significant disruption on the Harbor Bridge.
According to Namibia Press Agency, the Melbourne Central Business District saw a massive turnout with organizers estimating the crowd to be around 100,000 people. Bruce McPhate, a participant in the Melbourne demonstration, expressed that the impact of the Gaza war on children was a key reason for his involvement. “Anywhere else in the world it’s never been acceptable, and I just felt I needed to come here today to make that point,” he commented.
In Sydney, thousands of people gathered for a rally that commenced with speeches at Hyde Park and continued with a march to Belmore Park. Meanwhile, in Canberra, about 2,000 individuals assembled in Civic Square for a protest described as “largely peaceful.”
The streets of Hobart were also filled with thousands of protesters, while tens of thousands convened in Perth’s city center to express their support for the Palestinian people. Organizers in Perth estimated that approximately 25,000 people participated in the march.
In Adelaide, a significant gathering took place outside Parliament House as thousands joined the March for Palestine.
