Windhoek: Pupkewitz Toyota has initiated the 'Save a Rhino' campaign to promote awareness and support efforts for the conservation of Namibia's rhino population.
According to Namibia Press Agency, Shawapala Kandjabanga, Brand Manager at Pupkewitz Toyota, announced in an interview that the campaign's primary event will be a community night cycling race. The race is scheduled to take place from November 7th to 8th, 2025, at the Pupkewitz Toyota showroom in Windhoek. The event will feature a two-kilometer route open from 20h00 on Friday until 08h00 on Saturday.
Participation fees are set at N.dollars 200 for solo cyclists, N.dollars 800 for social teams of four, and N.dollars 5,000 for corporate teams of four. Children under 15 can join the event at no cost, while those aged 16 and above are required to register online. The event will accommodate up to 200 participants.
Safety arrangements will include patrols by the Namibian Police Force, marshals along the course, and comprehensive event logistics. The venue will also host food vendors, a coffee bar, and a beer tent to enhance the experience for participants and spectators alike. Number collection for participants is scheduled for November 6th from 16h00 to 18h30.
Kandjabanga emphasized the campaign's goal to unite communities, raise awareness, and inspire participation in support of rhino conservation. He noted that although there will be no official race winners, every participant will be celebrated as a winner, with lucky draws adding an additional element of excitement to the event.
The campaign is further bolstered by partnerships with Wilderness and Children in the Wilderness (CITW) to advance rhino conservation education in schools located within rhino-range areas. Kandjabanga extended an invitation to the public to participate, donate, and show support for these conservation efforts.
