RA cautions stakeholders against phishing emails

The Roads Authority (RA) has distanced itself from emails, purportedly from its employees regarding purchase orders, purchase orders from procurement, and payments.

The RA in a media statement on Monday clarified that such emails are not from the RA or any of its employees, but rather phishing emails that have been “spoofed”, and therefore urged its stakeholders to ignore or delete them once received.

Phishing is a cybercrime in which a target or targets are contacted via email, telephone or text message by someone posing as a legitimate institution to lure individuals into providing sensitive data such as personally identifiable information and banking and credit card details.

Email spoofing is the creation of email messages with a forged sender address.

“The RA has taken the necessary security measures to deal with this IT security incident,” the statement read.
