The Roads Authority (RA) has announced that some roads that were closed off a few weeks ago due to damage by heavy rains have now been re-opened to the public.

A media statement availed to Nampa on Sunday by RA Corporate Communications Officer, Hileni Fillemon, said repairs have commenced on the MR76 Uis to Khorixas road on the Ugab Bridge, and currently the road is only passable with 4×4 vehicles.

She said the DR 2612 Twyfelfontein area, which was washed away, has been repaired, while the road on the southern side of the Aba-Huab River is now passable by all vehicles, whilst the road on the northern side of the Aba-Huab River is only passable with 4×4 vehicles. She added that the section between the Aba-Huab River and the Twyfelfontein turn off has been repaired and is also accessible by all vehicles.

‘The MR128 Palmwag-Sesfontein at the Skelm River is still flooding, thus no vehicles can pass through and it is still closed, however repair works have commenced and the rest of the road is passable with all vehicles. The MR126 road between Khorixas and Palmwag, which was damaged, is repaired and the road is now passable with all vehicles. However, due to restricted river crossings, the road between Kamanjab and Palmwag is only passable with 4×4 vehicles, and the section at Langasem Pass will be repaired in due course,’ said Fillemon.

She added that in the ||Kharas Region, the DR212 Aussenkehr and Rosh Pinah road is still closed to all traffic. However, the MR118 Rosh Pinah and Oranjemund road is open and the RA is currently attending to the road shoulders, but the public is requested to strictly adhere to the erected road signs at all times.

‘The DR 463 road turn off from Keetmanshoop towards Lüderitz is open to traffic, however, the public is kindly requested to drive with caution as road repairs are being carried out on the road,’ stated Fillemon.

She further added that the maintenance teams are on standby to ensure that damaged roads are repaired, where possible within a reasonable time period, and all motorists are advised to continue exercising caution and to plan their journeys ahead of time.
