COVID-19: Namibia records 17 cases

Health and Social Services Minister, Dr Kalumbi Shangula, has announced that Namibia on Sunday recorded 17 COVID-19 cases.

No deaths were recorded.

In the daily update issued Monday, Shangula said the cases formed part of 764 results and represented a 2.2 per cent positivity ratio. Of the 17 cases, 15 are new and two are reinfections. The sex distribution of the new cases is 11 females and six males aged between four and 73 years.

The Erongo Region recorded the highest number of cases at eight, followed by Khomas with seven, while Omaheke and ||Kharas recorded one case each.

Among the confirmed cases are six learners from different schools. Four cases are fully vaccinated while 13 cases are not vaccinated, accounting for 76.5 per cent of the total confirmed cases.

No new recoveries have been recorded and recoveries in the country remain at 152 694.

The number of active cases on Sunday stood at 2 589, of which 25 were hospitalised and six were admitted to intensive care units (ICU). Two cases in hospital are fully vaccinated, while 23 are not vaccinated, while none of the cases in ICU is vaccinated.

The minister also reported that by 26 February 2022, a total 432 481 people had received their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, of which 124 025 had received the single dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine, from which 9 881 are children aged between 12 and 17 years.

A total of 249 294 people have received two doses, thus 373 319 people had completed their vaccination, translating to 25.4 per cent of the target population. Meanwhile, 27 264 people have received booster shots.
