Accra:The Roads Authority (RA) has clarified that no road projects have been abandoned, and efforts to complete outstanding sections of ongoing projects will proceed, contingent on the availability of annual funding.

According to Namibia Press Agency, RA Chief Executive Officer Mbahupu Hippy Tjivikua issued a statement addressing the concerns raised by road users, regional councils, and communities regarding the pace of road construction. The statement emphasized that claims of project abandonment by the Government of the Republic of Namibia, the RA, or the Road Fund Administration (RFA) are inaccurate.

The RA reiterated that all incomplete sections of current projects are still active commitments of the Namibian government, RA, and RFA. Their implementation will continue as funding becomes available each year. The Authority assured that projects nearing completion will be finished within a reasonable timeframe, supported by technical assessments and prioritization efforts.

Acknowledging the capital-intensive nature of road infrastructure, the RA noted that substantial financial resources are required. Discussions are underway to enhance and diversify funding for road construction and maintenance. While delays have been recognized, the RA is actively addressing these issues through targeted maintenance, faster procurement processes, and better project sequencing.

Despite these efforts, the statement did not specify particular projects, their costs, completion dates, or funding amounts. Recent reports indicated a N$2.3 billion deficit for the RFA in the 2025/26 financial year, with only 40% of necessary funding allocated to the national road network as of August. The RA urged stakeholders to contact its head office for verified information on project timelines and progress.
