Washington: The White House announced on Friday the members of the “Board of Peace” for Gaza, tasked with implementing the 20-point peace plan proposed by U.S. President Donald Trump for the conflict-torn region.
According to Namibia Press Agency, the founding executive board includes U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Trump’s special envoy Steve Witkoff, Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner, and former British Prime Minister Tony Blair. Trump chairs the board under the peace plan he unveiled last September. Each member of the board will manage a portfolio that covers governance, diplomacy, and reconstruction.
Nickolay Mladenov, a former UN envoy to the Middle East, has been appointed as the high representative for Gaza. He will serve as the primary connection between the Board of Peace and Gaza’s new administration. In addition, Major General Jasper Jeffers has been named commander of the International Stabilization Force, which is responsible for maintaining peace, supporting demilitarization, and facilitating the delivery of humanitarian aid and reconstruction materials.
Trump stated that as chairman of the board, he supports Palestinian leaders in governing Gaza during the transition. He also mentioned that the United States is collaborating with Egypt, Trkiye, and Qatar to secure a comprehensive demilitarization agreement with Hamas, which includes the surrender of all weapons and the dismantling of its tunnel network.
