Swapo Secretary-General Sophia Shaningwa has urged party employees to respect their duties and responsibilities because their daily activities deal with the livelihood of all Namibians and the overall wellbeing of the party.

Shaningwa in her annual address to party members who also serve as employees in the ruling party, reminded them that they are expected to report to their duty stations on time, knock off on time and respect official working hours at all levels. She said no one should abscond from duty without leave because it will deprive the party of much-needed service, energy and leadership.

“We must respect the responsibilities and the trust placed on us by the rank and file of our party as elected leaders. When we don’t respect our roles and we don’t carry out our responsibilities, we stain the image and reputation of our dear party and its leadership. This is undesirable, as it is destructive and should not be allowed,” said Shaningwa.

She added that positions as employees, elected leaders in the party structure or as employees of the party to the central, regional or local governments, must be about total dedication to service delivery and the wellbeing of the people of the country.

“Remember, it is not about the title you hold, it is about what you do when you are allocated responsibilities that matter the most. As Swapo Party members and functionaries, we must be able to provide leadership at different levels in our communities. We must be able to play positive roles in the improvement and maintenance of the livelihood of our people everywhere in our country,” stated Shaningwa.

She further added that party members or leaders must refrain from conduct which contradicts the party constitution, principles, rules and regulations.
