Walvis Bay:The Municipality of Walvis Bay has installed 113 off-grid solar-powered streetlights at Farm 37 Portion 10, costing N$6.1 million, to provide public lighting to residents as permanent electricity infrastructure is developed.
According to Namibia Press Agency, the project, valued at N$6,137,501.36 including VAT, serves as an interim solution to address the immediate lighting needs of residents in the area. The streetlights operate independently of the conventional electricity grid and can be converted to conventional electricity use once permanent infrastructure is available.
The municipality emphasized that this investment will continue benefiting residents as electricity infrastructure in Farm 37 expands. In addition, the construction of a pump station in Farm 37 began in July 2026, with an estimated cost of N$24 million. It is expected to be completed during the first quarter of 2027, providing essential infrastructure to support the area's development.
Efforts to extend public lighting to the remaining portions of Farm 37, including Extensions 1 and 2, are ongoing. The completed streetlight project and the ongoing pump station construction are part of the municipality's broader strategy to improve services and meet the immediate infrastructure needs of residents while promoting sustainable development.
