Mariental: A 52-year-old man allegedly stabbed his ex-girlfriend’s son to death at the Ombili informal area in Mariental on Saturday.

According to Namibia Press Agency, Namibian Police Force Head of the Crime Investigations Division in the Hardap Region, Deputy Commissioner Johannes Mwatongwe, reported that the suspect arrived at his ex-girlfriend’s residence and was asked to leave by her and her housemates, as he was not welcome. The suspect allegedly refused to comply and drew a knife, subsequently stabbing the woman in the right shoulder.

The woman’s 29-year-old son, Salvation Kobus Afrikaner, intervened by striking the suspect on the nose with a piece of wood in an attempt to disarm him. A struggle ensued between Afrikaner and the suspect, during which the suspect allegedly stabbed Afrikaner above the collarbone on the right side, leading to his death at the scene. The mother was transported to the Mariental State Hospital by a fire brigade ambulance for medical treatment.

The deceased’s body was taken to the hospital’s mortuary, where a postmortem will be conducted to ascertain the exact cause of death. The suspect has been arrested and is expected to appear in the Mariental Magistrate’s Court this week. The next of kin have been informed, and the police investigation is ongoing.
