Windhoek: The Namibian Police Force on Friday dismissed allegations circulating on social media that a police vehicle was misused to tow a private trailer for a wedding in Oshikango. In a media statement, NamPol Inspector General, Lieutenant General Joseph Shikongo stated that the claims made in an audio recording were untrue and misleading.
According to Namibia Press Agency, Shikongo responded that the incident referenced in the recordings did not occur in Oshikango and was not related to any private or social event. He clarified that the matter dates back to 17 May 2024 in Fransfontein, where officers were responding to a stock theft case involving three donkeys.
'The stolen animals were recovered on 22 May 2024, and two suspects were arrested,' said Shikongo, explaining that a Toyota Hilux police vehicle from Khorixas was used to transport the recovered donkeys using the complainant's private trailer from Uis back to Fransfontein.
Shikongo noted that the actions were strictly operational and in line with policing duties, stressing that at no point was the vehicle used for private purposes, nor was the fuel referred to as Ngungula, used.
Shikongo further urged the public to refrain from spreading false or defamatory information, especially on social media, and to verify facts with relevant authorities before sharing content that could harm reputations. 'The Namibian Police Force remains committed to transparency, accountability, and professional service delivery,' said Shikongo.
