Grootfontein: The 46-year-old bus driver who died in a head-on collision outside Grootfontein Friday afternoon was on Saturday identified by his close relatives.According to Namibia Press Agency, Namibian Police Force (NamPol) head of community affairs in the Otjozondjupa Region, Senior Inspector Maureen Mbeha, stated in an interview that the deceased was identified as Haikali Silas Simeon.Simeon was driving a Quantum bus from Grootfontein to Windhoek when his vehicle collided with a Zambian-registered truck. The accident occurred when the truck, which was overtaking another vehicle approximately 33 kilometers south of Grootfontein, collided head-on with the bus amidst poor visibility due to rain.The Zambian truck driver, aged 24, survived the crash with minor injuries and has been charged with culpable homicide, reckless, and/or negligent driving. Seven passengers on the bus, aged between 16 and 64, sustained injuries ranging from slight to serious and were transported to the Grootfontein State Hospita l for treatment.Police investigations into the matter are ongoing.
